Today team 5 had a talk with Andrew Patterson, and this time he brought someone with him and it was a year 12 boy named Raenan. Raenan talked to us about his life at Tamaki College, when he was in intermediate his mum said that he was going to Tamaki College but he didn't want to go there but he wanted to go to other schools near his house but he figured that tamaki was the best for him. When Raenan was 12 years old he had set a goal for himself and that goal was to try and be a deputy boy and now in 2017 he is a deputy boy. After Raenan was talking about his life Andrew Patterson showed us a video of a boy saying a speech, his Dad was in prison for 7 years.
My goal for being a year 8 is being a role models for younger kids.

School Athletics Day
WALT - write a recount
On Friday 10th of November, it was our annual School Athletics day. There were different types of sports and activities.
The first thing we had to do, when we got to class was get changed into our house colors. When the bell went everybody lined up, outside on the netball courts. The principle talked to us, then we were able to start off our day. The sports we played were softball, relays, dodge ball, extreme, volleyball, shot put, high jump, sprints, discus, javelin, and other type of sports. There were groups like year 7 girls or year 8 girls. All of the groups had one teacher to look after them and tell them where to go.
First game that my year 7 group played was softball. Since it was the first game of the day I was a bit nervous. As the day went on I got more and more nervous. I was so nervous, because of the sprints. I am not good at running. The day went on and I had to the sprints so when it was time to run I was scared. The principle got two kinds of wood and clapped them together. When he clapped the woods together, we had to run. So we ran. I came 4th or 5th in the sprints.
It was the end of the day and everybody went to class to mark the roll. Then everyone would go back on the courts then the teachers would direct us to sit somewhere to sit on the field to watch the different house color people did the relay race. The team that came 1st was hikianalia in 2nd place was Hine moana in 3rd was Te Aurere and in fourth place was Hokulea. Then when that race was done the teacher and the kids and the volunteers did the relays, it was a bit funny in the beginning of the race because there was one teacher that fall over flat on her face but the winner was the kids team and they won by miles. But in second place was the volunteers and in third was the teachers. When that was finished we went back to the team 5 block and had a rest and some ice blocks.
At the end of the day I had a lot of fun and I can't wait until next year when I will be a year 8. Next year I am going to try really hard because it will be my last year.

Andrew patterson talking to yr 7 and 8
Today on the first of october this man called Andrew patterson came to the year 7 and 8 block to talk about the future and if we want to be a giver or if you want to be a taker when you grow up. The first thing he did with us is talking about what we want to be when we grow up and what we have to do, to get the job and what it takes. Like if you wanted to be a professional sports player you will only get a 1 percent. A + I = M. A stands for Aspiration, I stands for Insertion and M stands for Motivation.

5 x 15 =75
5 x 10 = 50
5 x 5 = 25
50 + 25 = 75
15 x 12 = 180
12 x 10 = 120
12 x 5 = 60
120 + 60 = 180
12 x 4 = 48
10 x 4 = 40
2 x 4 = 8
40 + 8 = 48
75 x 180 =
70 x 100 = 7000
70 x 80 = 5600
5 x 100 = 500
5 x 80 = 400
7000 + 5600 = 12600
500 + 400 = 900
12600 + 900 = 13500
180 x 48 =
40 x 100 = 4000
40 x 80 = 3200
8 x 100 = 800
8 x 80 = 640
4000 + 3200 = 7200
800 + 640 = 1440
7200 + 1440 = 8640
13500 x 8640 =
8640 x 10000 = 86400000
8640 x 3000 =25920000
8640 x 500 = 4320000
86400000 + 25920000 + 4320000 = 116640000

Translate
Question - The rectangle slides to a new position.
Which of the following could be the new position of the rectangle?
Which of the following could be the new position of the rectangle?
This had to be the easiest because you had to slide the shape along and the other options were turned or something else
Question - The L-shape is translated at an angle of 60° and a distance of 4 units, then translated again at an angle of -10° and a distance of -3 units
Which one of the following shows the correct image?
This was the hard one because I didn't know what was going on and I just didn't get what was happening
Rotation
This was the Question - The square is rotated one complete turn about the point O.
Which of the following shows the new position of the square?
Which of the following shows the new position of the square?
This was the easy Rotation I did because all you did was a full turn, you just had to leave it there because it was a full turn 180 degrees
The Question - Rectangle A′B′C′D′ is the image of rectangle ABCD after which of the following rotations?
This one was hard and confusing because I didn't know what to do .

SUCCESS CRITERIA: I know I can do this when
- I can use evidence in the text to support my inference
- I can use prior knowledge to support my inference
I learnt that you need to know what is happening in the story before you start inferring. In a story you write whats happening so you can find the information and you can find things that the author didn't write.

For today's math session we were doing some geometry/math . First each person in the class had to have 10-12 cube blocks. We used the cube blocks to build a rocket. After we are done
making the rockets we have to draw the ship on a math book from a birds eye view , side eye view and a front view.
Once we have finished drawing we have to get a buddy to look at the drawing and make the ship I have designed. They can only look at the drawing.

My Special Place
My special place is the Otahuhu pools because I have been there with the family and with my Australian family. All sorts of things happen there with my family like my cousin's 1st birthday party and go there just to spend time with the family. The pools are indoor and a basketball court is outside and indoor and there is even a library connected as well.
Once you finish swimming and having fun you could go out the pools and then play some games on the grass where it looks like a field or you could go on the park. Some events happen there like the christmas party and more. The pools are great because they have a booming pool a swimming pool a pool to play whatever you want in a spa pool and a kiddy pool and they have a water park but the water comes and goes.
I have fun memories from the Otahuhu pools and I even saw my cousin at the pools having a birthday party for his little brother or sister's party. The thing I like there is the booming area but don't boom I just jump and then swim out of the pool. The I like because it's fun for the whole family not just for kids.
I chose this place cause I have only been there with my family.
